HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
The Venetian Mass goes back to Ludwigsburg's Duke Carl Eugen: on a trip to Italy, the regent found such a favor at the Venetian Maskenfest that he imported it to his residence in 1768. The courtly society and the ostentatious people were carried along for days, no different than the guests of the Venetian Fair.
The Ludwigsburg Residenzschloss, which was begun in 1704, is today the best-preserved Baroque castle in Germany with 18 buildings and over 400 rooms. Its extensive parks are home to the oldest and most beautiful garden show in Germany, the Blühende Barock. The Residenzschloss is only a few minutes away from the Jagd- und Lustschloss Favorite. A magnificent avenue leads from there through the Favoritepark to the romantic sea castle Monrepos.
