The Stuttgart Beer Festival takes places every year for about 14 to 16 days at the Cannstatter Wasen in Bad Cannstatt.
It started around 1818 when King Wilhelm I sponsered the festival after years of hunger. Today, this festival is the second largest beer festival in Germany, right after the Oktoberfest in Munich. Live bands play in the beer tents, there are many carnival rides to try out - not to mention the fair food and the specialities such as candied almonds. The ferris wheel is always a big attraction at this festival.
The Spring Beer Festival is a little bit smaller than the beer festival in the fall. It also takes place every year for about three weeks at the 'Wasen' in Bad Cannstatt. Stuttgart Marketing, the official tourism partner for Stuttgart, offers reasonable arrangents for these events.

The Stuttgart Beer Festival, which originated in 1818 as a harvest thanksgiving celebration, has become one of the world’s largest public festivals with a host of fairground rides and frequent new attractions centred round its emblem, a 26 metre high column of fruit.
The white water flume, the Ferris wheel and the colourful market stalls delight millions of visitors 17 days long, from 26th September until 12th October 2014. In the huge marquees of the Stuttgart breweries, each of which seats up to 5000 guests, in the beer tents of the regional brewers and the beer gardens, the beer flows more or less unceasingly, and there is plenty of food available as well. Each year the festival opens with a grand procession with magnificently decorated brewery drays drawn by four or six horses, and with groups from all over the region dressed in traditional costumes.
